A series of tutor-marked assignments will help you to monitor your progress on this course. However, if you wish to gain the formal ICB qualification, you will need to sit an exam from home. You can take this examination whenever you feel most prepared. Students will be taking the 2018/2019 legislation examination, which must be taken by September 2020.

Course Duration

Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. Usually the course will take around 90 hours to complete.

Study Method

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.


With the ICB Diploma in Payroll Management you have two options:

1) The course can be studied for personal interest and development without assessment and we can provide you with a completion certificate.

2) You can choose to take the ICB examination in Payroll Management. On successful completion you will gain an official ICB level 3 certificate in Payroll Management and an OSCA (Open Study College Award).

Will the Sage software work on any computer?

The Sage 50 Payroll software will with all 32 or 64-bit variants of Microsoft Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Window Server 2008 R2, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Small Business Server 2011. Sage software will not run on any Apple Macintosh computer. Please email us for full specification and compatibility details.

Do I have to sit an exam?

You have the option of sitting the ICB examination to gain the full qualification, which can be taken from home. Alternatively, we can issue you with a certificate proving your completion of the course.

Are there any additional costs?

If you decide to sit the ICB exams, there will be a small charge payable to the ICB. 

What happens if I lose my course pack?

It’s not a problem. We offer a course replacement service, so if you get into trouble and your course pack is lost or damaged, our Student Support Team can provide you with a new set of materials for a one-time additional fee.
