How to Succeed with Your New Year’s Resolution
January 2, 2018 / Sharnie Carter
We’re onto our 2nd day of the New Year.
How many of you have already considered giving up on your new year’s resolution and “starting again on Monday”…?
365 days may seem like a long time, but just think about it – you are already 2 days down without realising!
Just in case that isn’t enough motivation, think about this: imagine this exact day last year in 2017.
- Were you disappointed or proud of yourself for what you had achieved in 2016?
- Did you wish you had put more effort into keeping up with your resolution?
Now think about this exact day next year in 2019:
- Do you want to be in the exact same position you are now?
- Are you going to be proud of yourself and what you have achieved?
Seems like pretty obvious answers, right?
So let’s make a start on it from now. We want to help you to succeed with your ‘New Year, New Me’ mantra, and make sure you are in a much better position this time next year.
Let’s think about the term ‘New Year’s Resolution’
There is always a big focus on New Year’s resolutions and the phrase ‘New Year, New Me’.
But if you think about it, it isn’t a new you. It’s just an improved version of you…
It will be the current you who makes all these changes.
It will be the current you who notices the difference.
And it will be the current you who will be disappointed if the new you doesn’t succeed.
This current you must be pretty good already if it can do all of that. So don’t put so much pressure on yourself.
Acknowledging that there is room for improvement is a big step in itself. But don’t take an even bigger one backwards by stopping every time you mess up. That is all part of the process.
The secret to success is by recognising the version of yourself right now; appreciate where you are in life and what you have achieved. Then anything you do from this point onward will be a bonus.
