“Distance learning gives me the freedom to learn whilst being a mother. It gives me confidence that I can build my future.”
Hayley is a 30-year-old student studying Forensic Science Level 3 with us. She is halfway through her course and has already successfully completed another course – all whilst being a mother and publishing her own book.
She commented: “The main reason behind my decision to follow a distance learning educational route is that it is essential for me to fit my learning around being a mother.
“I am also in the process of having a book published, and my courses at Open Study College easily slot in and help alongside my writing. I am almost halfway through my current course studying Forensic Science Level 3, and I’ve also already completed a course in Fiction Level 3. This is only possible thanks to the flexibility of distance learning at OSC.”
Once completing her course, Hayley would love to pursue a career in a related field but has extracurricular passions that she feels complement her studies as well as her home life.
“Outside of my studies, I very much enjoy writing stories and photography. I enjoy reading too. Once I have completed this course, I would like to continue my writing in different genres but also find a career in a similar field.
“Sometimes I find it challenging to sit in a quiet area to study, particularly being a mother, as I enjoy being in the bustle and noise of motherhood. But thanks to Open Study College it is possible to do this, as I fit studying around the rest of my life and not the other way around, which is another wonderful thing about distance learning. I enjoy the fact that I can learn whilst being a mother. It gives me confidence that I can build my future.
“Not only has OSC supported me in learning new skills in my course and studies, but as a student I have access to help with creating my CV that will help in securing a career. Anyone who is thinking of studying with OSC – I’d definitely say to go for it! The courses are excellent and the tutors are very helpful.”
