Happy Roald Dahl Day!
September 13, 2019
In celebration of Roald Dahl Day, which falls on the much loved author’s birthday, we spoke to some of Team OSC to find out their favourite of his wonderful catalogue of books, and the reasons why!
Our Marketing and PR Coordinator, Sharnie, said:
“My favourite Roald Dahl book is George’s Marvelous Medicine because I loved the magic and creativity in the story. I love that he wanted to use it for good to make his grandma a nicer person! As a child, me and my sister loved pretending to create our own medicines, just like George did.”
Credit Controller Kerri-Jane:
Digital Content Executive Libby told us:
“My favourite book from Roald Dahl was The Twits.
There was a period when I was reading the book at least every other week! I absolutely loved both characters’ horrible descriptions and all the pranks they played on each other. One particular favourite of mine was the worm spaghetti prank Mrs Twit played on Mr Twit and I used to fantasize about getting worms from the garden and putting them on my sisters plate! Horrible child I was!”
Jasmine, our Academic Development Manager:
“I love Matilda! My favourite part is seeing Matilda and Miss Honey scaring Miss Trunchbull, and getting revenge after she has been so awful to everyone. It is a magical book with a happy ending!”
Marketing and Communications Executive, Kelly, said:
“I have a soft spot for Fantastic Mr Fox. I remember saving up my stamps from the weekly book club at school to buy it. Mr Fox is so charming and clever!”
Umesh, our Software Quality Engineer:
“My favourite Roald Dahl book was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Like most kids at a young age I was a massive fan of sweets and chocolate. Reading about this fantasy world created by a crazy owner in his own magical factory, with rivers of chocolate, Oompa Loompas and a great glass elevator inspired me to strive to make the impossible, possible.”
Rebecca, our Senior Student Services Adviser, told us:
“When I was younger my dad used to collect all of Roald Dahl’s books for me, and my absolute favourite has to be The Twits!
Not only is The Twits hilarious to read, but I love that the theme throughout is to always be kind to others. This meant a lot to me while I was growing up, and contains one of my favourite quotes:
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
