Your employees need to know what is expected of them. You can’t just assume they know, as they won't be able to perform to the required standard. Make sure you set clear goals so they know exactly what needs to be done in order to meet deadlines. Check employees understanding and challenge any assumptions.

Everyone works and responds differently to various tasks. When managing performance, you will need to know what works well with people and what doesn't. You will then get the best out of everyone, whilst improving rapports and performance.
