Giving back

Here at Open Study College giving back to the community is something that is really important to us. 'Togetherness' is one of our college values, and our feeling of togetherness extends beyond those who work directly at OSC. We are incredibly proud to support a number of charities and good causes.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH EVERY ENROLMENT

On January 1st 2018, Open Study College launched a partnership with Help Harry Help Others in order to raise awareness and funds for people suffering with cancer.

Help Harry Help Others is an independent charity founded in 2009 by Harry Moseley. After being diagnosed with a brain tumour, Harry wanted to help others in the same situation as himself, and with the help of many, he created fundraising events and spoke publicly to further his campaign.

The aim of the campaign was to encourage fun and different ways of fundraising to get everyone involved. Not only that but he wanted his schools fundraising initiative to inspire children like himself to make a difference by helping others less, in addition to learning valuable business and life skills.

Most notably, Help Harry Help Others is known for its beaded bracelets that started the campaign. Described as “unique bracelets hand made with love for all people with cancer”, they were sold to thousands of people, including many famous faces who endorse the charity.

We at Open Study College want to follow on from Harry’s initiative and help to continue the success of the charity. Since January 1st 2018, we have donated to Help Harry Help Others for every new student enrolment. With our help, Help Harry Help Others can continue the great work that they do and change even more lives.

SUPPORTING THE EMERGENCY SERVICES

We’re thrilled to have sponsored the 2021/2022 season, and 2022/2023 season of the nationwide Emergency Services Football League, as well the West Midlands Ambulance Service Coventry team which plays within the league.

The Emergency Services Football League (ESFL) is the only one of its kind in the UK, and was set up in 2020 to create regular, flexible fixtures for those that work for the NHS, Fire, Police and prison services, but are often unable to commit to regular leagues due to unsociable working patterns.

We’re proud to be sponsoring both the league and a local team, this is one of the small ways we can give back and support our hard working emergency services to do something they love outside of work. We wish the West Midlands Ambulance Service Coventry team a successful season ahead!

SUPPORTING MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH

Movember is an incredible charity for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer and is a charity we started supporting in 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The causes that Movember supports are often overlooked, so during the UK’s second national lockdown in November 2020, we decided to get involved! We all needed some motivation to get up and out of the house so we challenged our team to walk, jog or run as many kilometres as we possibly could all whilst raising money for the good cause. Having supported the Movember cause since November 2020, the team have now clocked up over 1,500km and raised £4106!

Not only did we raise a great amount for a worthy charity, but it also brought our team together during a huge national crisis where we all felt very disconnected. We will be taking part in Movember 2023, so watch this space!
