3 secrets you need to know before walking into an interview
July 27, 2016 / Sharnie Carter
You only have one chance to prove to a potential employer why you’re the perfect candidate for the job. It is important that you walk into your interview with a plan on how you’re going to sell yourself. Failing to do this will mean losing out on good offers and consequently missing out on your dream job. So check out these 3 secrets you need to know before walking into an interview:
Never be too eager
Although employers are looking for people that are enthusiastic about working for them, it is possible for you to be too keen. Presenting yourself as an overly excited candidate may destroy your chances of getting the job. As much as sending a thank-you email after your interview is a great way to show your passion about the job, following it up too much can destroy your chances of being chosen.
A vital part of an interview is making sure you impress everyone – even the receptionist! More than likely recruiters will ask for the opinions of other staff. So don’t forget to greet everyone with a confident and firm handshake and smile!
First impressions count
The first 5 minutes of your interview is the most crucial. Interviewers will be assessing your speech and body language and if you don’t stand out then you may miss your change of getting the job. Make sure you make an impression that counts!
Be as confident as you can and don’t forget to give your interviewer a firm handshake and introduce yourself well. Tackle those questions one by one and don’t let your nerves get the better of you. Good luck!
