Course overview

For those with kids obsessed with digital music or those with budding music producers, this digital music production course online will spark musical creativity!

Whilst anyone can study this course, we feel it’s best suited to kids aged 12-17 with a keen interest in music creation. This course will boost digital creative skills and give a whole new range of skills that may not be available at school.

Discover how to use an industry-leading Digital Audio Workstation Ableton Live 10 and learn musical techniques for composing an original piece of music and create own musical creations.

At the end of the course, students will publish their work so that the world can hear their achievements!

Students will also gain access to an online classroom where they will be able to post questions for tutors to respond to. In addition to this, they will also be invited to a monthly live Q&A session with a tutor, optional but encouraged, to help learners get the most out of their course.

This course is ideal for keeping kids entertained during the school holidays and giving them the opportunity to learn something new, without having to worry about juggling with homework.

Course requirements

There are a number of requirements needed before you enrol your child on this course. Our recommended age range is 12-17 years old.

Virtual sessions

You must be 17 or under to participate in the virtual classroom sessions for safeguarding reasons.

Computer requirements

A basic laptop from the last five years will be sufficient. You will need to have your own device in order to connect to our online learning platform. We recommend the following PCs are suitable.

MacOS
– MacOs 10.12 or later
– All intel based Macbooks and iMacs since 2015
– 8GB RAM
– Min 1GB available storage

Windows Device
– Windows 7 or later
– Using Intels i3 (i5 recommended) since 2013
– 8GB RAM
– Min 1gb storage space available

Internet speed

– 15mbps connection or better is recommended.

For reference, if you can stream YouTube videos full screen without buffering and it looks good then you’re good to go!

Additional requirements

You will need to download and install the Ableton Live software ready for the course. This can be done by buying a license here or by downloading the trial software from the Ableton website.

It is also strongly recommended that you purchase a keyboard for the course such as this one here – MacBook users will need an adaptor to plug the keyboard into the computer.

Study Method

This course will be studied through distance learning online. Learn when and wherever you can, as long as you have access to the internet. This course will be available online, so receiving your materials is easy.

Students will work independently at their own pace through learning materials and assignments, and will also receive tutor support via email and telephone.

Virtual sessions

A virtual classroom is set up for students to ask their tutor any questions as they progress their course, in addition to a live monthly Q&A session.

Please note: you must be 17 or under to participate in the virtual classroom sessions for safeguarding reasons.

Assessment

All of the course is housed on an online learning platform. There are a number of tasks to complete and an informal quiz to test skills learnt.

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, students will publish their work so that the world can hear their achievements! Once they have finished the course, their profile with XP (experience points) will be sent by email.
