It’s being used in medicine to spot cancer cells, courtrooms to help determine the risk of criminals re-offending, as well as in art to create new music from analysing composers like Brahms!

For those computer wizzes, this Artificial Intelligence course is perfect to keep teenagers’ brains challenged, engaged and of course playful!

Designed for those aged 13-17 with a keen interest in modern technology, coding or artificial intelligence this course will give kids a whole new range of skills that will set them up brilliantly for future employment and education.

They will delve into the issues of computer bias, create a home of the future using Artificial Intelligence and discover how to program an autonomous vehicle!

Confidence in writing and creating AI models.

The fundamentals of Machine Learning and what confidence means in an AI model.

How to create an AI that will tell you how good a film might be based upon its poster.

About the functions AI can perform really well and how they are being used in the world already.

How to use algorithms and functions as well as how to test and debug AI and Machine Learning models.

To use text based AI to identify celebrities by their tweets.

Course requirements

There are a number of requirements needed before you or your child enrol onto this course. Students must be 13-17 years old.

Computer requirements

A basic laptop from the last 5 years will be sufficient. You will need to have your own device in order to connect to our online learning platform. We recommend the
following PCs are suitable:
● MacOS
○ MacOS 10.12 or later
○ All intel based Macbooks and iMacs since 2015
○ 8GB RAM
○ min 1GB available storage
○ webcam
● Windows Device
○ Windows 7 or later
○ Using Intel i3 (i5 recommended) since 2013
○ 8GB RAM
○ Min 1gb storage space available
○ webcam
If you do not have a computer that meets the computer requirements, we can provide a cloud-based solution for most courses. This will give you access to a high-spec computer via the cloud, meaning you simply use a very basic device that can access the internet and has a screen, keyboard and mouse. Internet speed of 15mbps connection or better is recommended. If you can stream YouTube videos full screen without buffering and it looks good then you’re good to go!

Study Method

This course will be studied through distance learning online. Learn when and wherever you can, as long as you have access to internet. All of the course will be available online, so receiving your materials is easy.

You will also receive personal tutor support through the online portal. Ideal for home schooling or extracurricular skills.

Students will work independently at their own pace through learning materials and assignments, and also have weekly live onscreen tutorials for sharing progress and problem-solving.

There are 5 weekly tutorials, lasting 1 hour each. These tutorials are led by an expert, fully DBS-checked instructor, and students will join a small group of other young learners online, working together in fun and interactive sessions. All sessions are monitored and recorded for safety.

Assessment

All of the course is housed on an online learning platform. There are a number of tasks to complete and an informal quiz to test skills learnt.

Course Outcome

Students will understand and be able to develop AI. Once they have finished the course, your profile with XP (Experience Points) will be sent by email.

What are course tutors like?

Lead Teachers have a strong background in education coupled with technical expertise in the area they teach. They are supported by course Instructors, who are most frequently talented Computer Science and Engineering students. All our instructors undergo in-person training in the curriculum of the course and in Child Safety Policies.

We select our instructors on technical expertise but also for great communication
skills and a real passion for their subject.

What course should my child do next?

We have a few different courses available for 13-17 year old students. For students interested in further developing Python skills, Teen Coding with Python could be a great choice. Or, if your child has more of a creative brain, how about Creative Digital Design.
