For those budding computer wizzes, this Artificial Intelligence course is perfect to keep kids brains challenged, engaged and of course playful.

Designed for those aged 9-12 with a keen interest in modern technology, coding, artificial intelligence and robots, this course will give kids a whole new range of skills that may not be available at school.

Let them discover how a computer named ‘Deep Blue’ beat a chess grandmaster and make a celebrity response bot! Watch how they train a video game to play itself and create a friendly alien detector.

Set up their future and enrol on a course with lifelong computing skills that can be used for future education or jobs.

  • What an algorithm is and how it is used in AI
  • The fundamentals of ‘classification’, ‘recognition’ and ‘machine confidence’ in AI
  • Understanding of key programming concepts such as functions, variables, data types and loops
  • How to create computer graphics
  • Further understanding of key coding concepts and applying them to build a game
  • Learn how to test and debug code
  • How to use AI ‘classification’ in a program
  • How to use industry standard AI
  • Learn about bias in data and building robust data-sets
  • Incorporate design thinking principles around ideation and prototyping in project design and problem solving

Course requirements

There are a number of requirements needed before you or your child enrol onto this course. Students must be 9-12 years old.

Computer requirements

A basic laptop from the last five years will be sufficient. You will need to have your own device in order to connect to our online learning platform. We recommend the following PCs are suitable.

– All intel based Macbooks and iMacs since 2015
– 8GB RAM
– Min 1GB available storage

Windows Device
– Windows 7 or later
– Using Intels i3 (i5 recommended) since 2013
– 8GB RAM
– Min 1gb storage space available

Internet speeds

– 15mbps connection or better is recommended.

For reference, if you can stream YouTube videos full screen without buffering and it looks good then you’re good to go!

Study method

This course will be studied through distance learning online. Learn when and wherever you can, as long as you have access to internet. All of the course will be available online, so receiving your materials is easy.

You will also receive personal tutor support through the online portal. Ideal for home schooling or extracurricular skills.

Students will work independently at their own pace through learning materials and assignments, and also have weekly live onscreen tutorials for sharing progress and problem-solving.

Assessment

All of the course is housed on an online learning platform. There are a number of tasks to complete and an informal quiz to test skills learnt.

Course Outcome

Students will understand the basics of AI and will have created their very own celeb celebrity response bot and friendly alien detector. They will also have confidence using Scratch and Python.

Once they have finished the course, their profile with XP (Experience Points) will be sent by email.

Course instructors are often Computer Science and Engineering students. All our instructors undergo in-person training in the curriculum of the course and in Child Safety Policies.

If you do not have a computer that meets the computer requirements, we can provide a
cloud-based solution for most courses. This will give you access to a high-spec computer
via the cloud, meaning you simply use a very basic device that can access the internet and
has a screen, keyboard and mouse.
Internet speed of 15mbps connection or better is recommended. If you can stream YouTube videos full screen without buffering and it looks good then you’re good to go!
