Unit 2 Preparing to set up a home based childcare business (K/506/4746)

• Leading and managing a home based childcare setting
• Financial and taxation requirements
• Planning and creating a business plan
• Registering with the appropriate regulatory body

Assessment

You will be assessed by handing in assignments to your tutor for marking. You will need to complete two tutor-marked assignments. No external examinations are required, so your course can be fully completed from home.

Course duration

Your course should take around 50 hours to complete and you have one full year to complete your course. You will receive a full year to complete the course, which is a lot more time than you will need. This allows you to work at your own pace, without the pressure of tight deadlines.

You will study this course by distance learning, which will enable you to take control of your studies. You can study at your own pace from a place that suits you. All your learning materials will be posted or emailed to you online, depending on the learning method you choose. You will also receive our tutor support by email, so help is only ever a click away.

Course outcome

Once you have successfully completed your assignments and this course, you will receive your NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Home Based Childcare – Childminder Route. A certificate will be provided to you as recognition of your achievement.

Job opportunities

Once you have completed this course and achieved your qualification, you will be able to register as a childminder. You must also have your Level 3 Paediatric First Aid to be able to register officially.

• Other childcare role in a home-based setting

Further studies

The topics covered in this award make for a useful introduction to our NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce award. Although it does not provide a direct progression route, it covers relevant subjects within this course.
