A Level English Literature

If you enjoy getting lost in a good story, picking apart what an author is really trying to say, or debating different interpretations, A Level English Literature could be right up your street. It’s a great choice if you’re considering university or a career where strong writing, communication and analytical skills are important, including careers such as journalism, publishing, copywriting, teaching, and communications.

On this A Level English Literature course, you’ll explore a range of texts from different periods and genres, including Shakespeare, pre-1900 prose and modern poetry. You’ll look closely at characters, themes, language and the choices writers make, while considering how different readers and critics can interpret the same text in very different ways.

You’ll also build your ability to analyse evidence, develop your own interpretations and put together clear, convincing arguments. Along the way, you’ll become a more confident writer and critical thinker – skills that can help you at university and in all sorts of future careers.

Once you’ve completed your studies and passed your exams, you’ll gain a nationally recognised AQA A Level English Literature qualification, worth up to 56 UCAS points.
