When Abbie first enrolled at university to study teaching, her ultimate goal was to pursue a career in education.
However, due to unfortunate circumstances, Abbie was forced to leave her studies early, and she had to put her ambitions of becoming a teacher on hold for the foreseeable future.
Luckily, Abbie’s plans were only paused temporarily as she then discovered Open Study College.
The flexibility of online learning meant that she could continue her education at her own pace, balancing study around personal commitments and family responsibilities.
Abbie decided to enrol on a CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
The hard work paid off
Just one week after starting the course, Abbie was offered a position in the SEND department at a local school, with the course acting as proof of her commitment to her desired career path.
This new opportunity was exactly the boost Abbie needed. Now she has long-term plans to continue working in schools and hopes to build on her skills by studying additional courses in autism and ADHD.
This hands-on work experience will build her current expertise and also expand her future career opportunities.
Achieving your career through online learning
Abbie’s journey is a clear example of how online learning can provide a second chance. With flexibility and accessibility, learners are able to grow and develop in ways that suit them in their current lifestyle, regardless of other outside factors.
Zoe, CACHE Centre Manager at Open Study College, added:
