A Level English Language and Literature

Bringing together the best of English Language and English Literature, this A Level gives you the chance to develop your understanding of both how language works and how writers use it to create meaning. It can be a great choice if you’re considering university or careers such as journalism, publishing, copywriting, teaching, editing or communications, while giving you a broad set of writing, analytical and communication skills that are useful across a range of careers.

On this A Level English Language and Literature course, you’ll explore both the way language is used and the way writers use it to create meaning. You’ll look at spoken and written language, consider how different voices and personas are created, and analyse how writers use language techniques to communicate ideas and shape their work. You’ll study a range of texts, including All My Sons by Arthur Miller, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.

You’ll also develop your ability to analyse texts, consider different interpretations and build clear, well-supported arguments. By bringing language and literature together, you’ll become a more confident reader, writer and communicator, with skills that can help you at university and in a wide range of careers.

Once you’ve completed your studies and passed your exams, you’ll gain a nationally recognised Edexcel A Level English Language and Literature qualification, worth up to 56 UCAS points.
