Exams and assessment

To achieve the A Level in Accounting you must take the A Level exams. You will be responsible for booking your exams. We can help you to find your nearest exam centre and we have 7 recommended exam centres across the country. You can contact us for help with this whenever you are ready.

Alternatively, choose the A level Accounting including Exams - we will then book and pay for your exams on your behalf.

There will be 2 paper-based exams, which will cover all of the units studied. A more detailed breakdown of the exam details is provided below:

Paper 1

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Weighing: 50% of A Level
  • Total Marks: 120
  • Assessed: Sections 1-8, and 14-18 of the subject content
  • Assessment format: 3 compulsory sections. 
    • Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 40 marks
    • Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
    • Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks.

Paper 2

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Weighing: 50% of A Level
  • Total Marks: 120
  • Assessed: Sections 1-3, 8-13, and 17-18 of the subject content
  • Assessment format: 3 compulsory sections. 
    • Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 30 marks
    • Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
    • Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks

This course does not include your exam fees. You will be responsible for booking and paying for your exams.

Course duration

You have 2 years to complete this course. Your only deadlines are the A Level examinations, which take place in June. You can book onto these examinations whenever you are ready and we can provide you with a list of exam centres to help you with this. Students are advised to contact exam centres well in advance of their intended exam dates, as cut-off dates sometimes change.

Study method

This course enables you to study for an A Level in Accounting by distance learning at home or at work. Your course materials will be sent by post or via email, you choose! Full tutor support will be available via email, so help is only a click away! Your course pack will include self-assessment exercises and tutor-marked study questions, so you can monitor your progress.

Course outcome

Upon successful completion the exams of you will receive an A Level in Accounting issued by AQA. You will be responsible for booking and paying for your exams.

The examinations run on specific dates.

Are there any additional costs?

You will be required to pay a fee to the examination centre of your choice and your exam when taking the A Level exams.

What if I live outside the UK?

You are still able to study this A Level course but must take the examinations within the UK as this is the only guaranteed way to access examination centres.

What happens if I lose my course pack?

It’s not a problem. We offer a course replacement service, so if you get into trouble and your course pack is lost or damaged, our Student Support Team can provide you with a new set of materials for a one-time additional fee.
