Module 2: IT User Fundamentals

  • Features of the operating system e.g. computer settings and built-in help
  • Computer desktop and graphical user environment

  • Health and safety practices when using a PC

Module 3: Word Processing

  • File formats
  • Built-in options e.g. ‘help’
  • Creating and editing documents
  • Sharing and distributing documents
  • Formatting options
  • Inserting tables, images and drawn objects
  • Mail merge operations
  • Page settings and spell checking

Module 4: Spreadsheets

  • File formats
  • Built-in options
  • Data; Enter, select, sort and copy, move and delete
  • Rows and columns; copy, move, delete, and rename worksheets
  • Formulas using standard functions
  • Formatting numbers and text
  • Choosing, creating, and formatting charts
  • Page settings and checking content

Module 5: Using Databases

  • Organising and operating a database
  • Creating a simple database and viewing in various modes

Module 6: Presentation

Assessment

The ECDL course requires students to take an examination for each of the seven modules. You must arrange and pay for these examinations yourself. All details of local test centres and fees can be found at www.ecdl.co.uk. The total exam fees will cost around £169.

Course Duration

You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.

Study Method

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. Students receive all course materials by post, plus tutor support.

Qualification

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification for computer users. ECDL provide an excellent introduction to computers for new users or people who have never had formal tuition. ECDL allows learners to experience computer basics and introduces the fundamentals of secure and effective computer use.

Q: Do I have to sit an exam?

Yes, to gain full ECDL certification you will need to take seven exams in your local test centre.  It is the students' responsibility to arrange these exams. More information can be found at www.ecdl.co.uk.
