The course allows you to study the fascinating history and evolution of the canine, exploring the differences between dogs and their wolf ancestors. You will also have the chance to learn about the psychology of canine learning and behaviour, anatomy and physiology, the varied roles of dogs in society, as well as how to provide the correct nutrition for dogs of a variety of breeds and ages.

You will be assessed through a series of written assignments, which are submitted to your tutor for marking. No external examination is required.

The materials provided are great, it's good to have a bag and folder, helps to protect my work. I have not contacted my tutor yet but it's good to know I have somebody there for support.
The reason I wanted to study this particular course is because I have looked after dogs for many years and want to have a qualification. I eventually want to become a dog trainer and can achieve this through home study, as I can keep petsitting, whilst studying and looking after my family and trying to get a part time job somewhere. Five years ago I went to see Cesar Millan and ever since have been inspired to do more to help rescue dogs.
However when I have looked at courses in the past at college I found they were too expensive, too long and meant me paying out more money to travel, which when you have a child is daunting. I want to achieve the best outcome I can as I left school at a young age and have always had a sense of being a low achiever, I believe that the Open Study College can make a huge difference in my life and that my self esteem is improving because people who make fun of me walking dogs will then be impressed when I can show I am qualified and I know a lot about dogs.
I am already talking to other people about The Open Study College and my Manager where I volunteer is impressed, even though it's a charity shop as I want a paid job with him and he's put me forward and I have told him I want a job so I can have more money to improve the petsitting and small pet boarding service that I offer.
