Course overview

An Access Award is an entry level qualification (Level 1) that provides students with introductory knowledge of bookkeeping in order to advance onto higher level AAT qualifications. The Level 2 Foundation Certificate is a higher-level qualification that will allow students to expand and build on the knowledge gained in the Level 1 Access Award. 

This combined course includes the examination fees needed to successfully gain your AAT qualifications. 

On completion, students will gain credits that will enable them to gain credit towards the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

This qualification is assessed through 3 computer-based assessments and four tutor-marked assessments. This computer-based assessment is to be sat under controlled conditions at an external examination centre. Your tutor will help you to decide when you are ready to take the assessments.

If you add on the exams, they will be taken at a centre in Irthlingborough, near Northampton. We will book these assessments for you when you feel you are ready. Please note – when booking this package, it is important to note that we are only able to book assessments at the specified centre in Irthlingborough, and you must therefore be prepared to travel to the centre to complete your assessment.

If you don’t add these on, you will need to book and pay for these separately.

Course duration

This course takes approximately 169 hours to complete (84 for Level 1, 85 for Level 2). You will have 18 months to complete your course (6 months for Level 1, 12 for Level 2) so you are able to study at a pace that suits you.

Study method

Once you enrol, you will receive all course materials by post and receive full tutor support. Once you have registered with AAT you will also have online access to online resources and additional support materials, including sample assessments.

Course outcomes

On successful completion of your AAT exams you will receive a Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping and a Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping awarded by The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

To sit your exams, you must join AAT as a student member, which will then give you access to their resources. If you add on your exams, the cost exams are included within the price of the course. If you choose to book these separately, you will need to pay an additional fee to the exam centre.
