    • Understand financial transactions within a bookkeeping system
    • Processing customer transactions
    • Processing supplier transactions

    • Processing transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance
    Unit 2: Bookkeeping Controls (GLH: 45)
    • Understanding payment methods
    • Understanding controls in a bookkeeping system
    • Using control accounts
    • Using the journal
    • Reconciling a bank statement with the cash book
  • Unit 3: Element of Costing (GLH: 45)
    • Understand an organisation’s cost recording system
    • Using a cost recording system to record or extract data
    Unit 4: Work Effectively in Finance (GLH: 45)
    • Understanding an organisation’s finance function
    • Using numeracy, literacy and communication skills
    • Working independently or in a team to prioritise tasks and manage colleagues’ responsibilities
    • Understanding ethical values, principles and importance of confidentiality
    • Understanding and explaining benefits to organisations of sustainable values
    Unit 5: Using Accounts Software (GLH: 45)
    • Recording and processing customer and supplier transactions
    • Recording and reconciling bank and cash transactions
    • Processing and using journals to enter accounting transactions
    • Production of reports for customer and suppliers
    • Production of a trial balance and general ledger reports

  • Assessment

    This course is assessed by four unit assessments and one synoptic assessment all of which are computer-based assessments that are taken at an external exam centre. The four unit assessments are available on demand throughout the year while the synoptic are available at set dates throughout the year. 

    Course Duration

    This course takes approximately 240 study hours to complete. Students have one year to complete the course from the date of enrolment.

  • Study Method

    Once you enrol, you will receive all course materials and Sage software by post. You will receive full tutor support via telephone and email for a year.

    On successful completion of your AAT exams you will receive a Certificate awarded by The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

What skills do I need to enrol onto this course?

You will need to have basic mathematical skills and IT literacy. In addition you must be 20 years or older to enrol on this course.

Will the Sage software work on any computer?

The Sage 50 Accounts software will only work on computers which run Windows 7 or higher, therefore Sage will not run on Windows XP. Sage software will not run on any Apple Macintosh computer. Please email us for full specification and compatibility details.

Are there any additional costs?

To sit your exams, you must join AAT as a student member, which will then give you access to their resources.  It is your own responsibility to pay for your student membership and exam fees, which are both payable to AAT. You will also need to pay your assessment centre fee’s, which will be paid directly to them.
