Exams Assessment

To achieve the full Economics A Level you will be assessed across the four themes. All themes will be assessed by 3 paper-based exams. A more detailed breakdown of the assessment details is provided below:

  • Paper 1: Markets and Business Behaviour – 9EC0/01
  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Weighing: 35% of total
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Assessed: Any content from themes 1 and 3.
  • Assessment format: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions, data response questions and extended open-response questions

 

  • Paper 2: The National and Global Economy – 9EC0/02
  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Weighing: 35% of total
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Assessed: Any content from themes 2 and 4
  • Assessment format: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions, data response questions and extended open-response questions

 

  • Paper 3: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics – 9EC0/03
  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Weighing: 30% of total
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Assessed: Content from all four themes
  • Assessment format: Data response questions including one extended open-response question
Course Duration

You have 2 years to complete this course. Your only deadlines are the A Level examinations, which you will be able to take in May/June 2019 at the earliest.

The examinations for this course will be taken at a centre in Birmingham; we will book these for you when you feel you are ready. Additional exam centres in various locations will soon become available.

This course enables you to study for an A Level in Economics by distance learning at home or at work. Your course materials will be sent by post or via email - you choose! Is this the same qualification as an A-Level from a school or college?

Yes! You study the same coursework, take the same examinations and get the same qualification. The only difference is that the course is designed to be studied from home, and you receive full tutor support via email.

What skills are needed to enrol onto this course?

You will need to have a reasonable grade GCSE or O Level in English and Mathematics.

Is there a required reading list?

There is no required reading for this A-level. However you will need to conduct your own research using the internet.

Do I have to sit an exam?

Yes, you will need to take the standard A Level examinations in order to fully complete this course; we will book these exams for you. The first available examination date for this syllabus is in May/June 2019.

Please note: you will need to sit these exams in the Birmingham examination centre. 

Are there any additional costs?

We recommend that you obtain a good quality scientific calculator. You will also be required to pay for your exams and a fee to take your exams at the examination centre that you choose.

What if I live outside the UK?

You are still able to study this A-Level course but must take the examinations within the UK as this is the only guaranteed way to access examination centres.

What happens if I lose my course pack?

We offer a course replacement service which ensures that, if your course pack is lost or damaged throughout the duration of your studies, we can issue you with a new set of materials for a one-time additional fee. This is available by calling our Student Support team on 03300 563100.
