Develop your knowledge in understanding autism
March 1, 2016 / Sharnie Carter
Autism is becoming increasingly common. It is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates and relates to other people. Here’s why you should develop your knowledge in understanding autism:
People with it struggle to make sense of people, places and events. The slightest thing could cause them anxiety. Even taking part in everyday family and social life can be hard for them.
There are many characteristics of autism, some of these include:
- Love of routines
- Sensory sensitivity
- Special interests
- Learning difficulties
“Everyday a young person with autism would visit a day service. He would always be dropped off by a taxi and knock the door before he was let in. One day, the door opened before he knocked. It caused confusion and was out of the ordinary. This made him return to the taxi to start the routine again.”
Understanding why people with autism behave in this manner can be very interesting. That’s why with our understanding autism course you can get an insight into how they think.
