Top 5 study tips you need to know
Developing good study habits is vital for successful learning. It is never too early or too late to change your study technique. So if you want your studying to get easier and improve your chances of getting good grades then you should definitely take note of these 5 killer study tips:
Summarise your information into your own words
If you can’t explain what you have learnt after each topic then you have not fully understood the information. After each page of your course materials get into the habit of summarising what it is about (roughly 5 bullet points will do). Don’t just read the information then tick it off – make sure you understand it!
Ask for help
If you’re unsure about anything included in your course materials, ask! The worst thing you can do whilst studying is struggle on your own. So make sure you take advantage of your personal tutor and don’t hesitate to ask them anything – however silly it sounds! They are there to support you and help you pass your course with flying colours.
It is important you test yourself. Come up with questions from your course materials and try to answer them – and make sure you do this without looking up the answer! At the end if any are wrong then this will show you what areas you need to work on and read over. Flashcards are great for testing your knowledge and boosting your memory - so why not give them a go!
There are various techniques that you can use to help you study. Why not try highlighting, creating mind maps, drawing diagrams and using post-it notes? Getting creative will help stimulate your learning and improve your memory. You should try all of these study methods to find what works best for you.
In order to pass your course it is vital that you set yourself some study goals and create a plan. This will help in outlining what you need to do and when, making you stay on top of your work. Starting your course early will also help in getting that head start you need to familiarise yourself with the course structure and your tutors marking.
