Health and fitness courses - be part of the obesity solution

National Obesity Awareness Week occurs annually on the second week in January. It aims to create a focus on what is a growing epidemic within the UK, with a view to reversing the trend. Studying one of our health and fitness courses could lead to a career in the health and fitness industry; helping to make positive changes to the country's population.
The term obese describes a person who's very overweight, with a lot of body fat. According to the NHS website, 1 in every 4 adults is clinically obese. Worryingly around 1 in 5 children aged 10 to 11 are also obese.
With obesity creating increased demand on our National Health Service, the government is understandably keen to improve our nation's health. Obesity can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, some cancers and strokes. Sufferers may be unable to work and need to claim benefits from government funding.

Make a change

On the plus side, with more awareness and education comes a greater desire from some individuals to make a change in their lifestyle and reverse the trend. January is traditionally seen as the time to start new diets after the excess of Christmas. A New Year comes with new resolutions for a new start. Gym memberships increase. Although these good intentions don't always signify a permanent lifestyle change, they're a step in the right direction.
With a home learning course, we can help you to become part of the obesity solution. Perhaps you're passionate about healthy eating and nutrition, and want formal recognition of your understanding and knowledge with a view to developing a career. Maybe you're a fitness fanatic who wants to inspire others to become a better version of themselves through personal training. Or, if sports is more your sweet spot, looking at the physiological and psychological science of sports could contribute to a career in coaching, therapy or even teaching. Studying one of our health and fitness courses will give you certified proof of your expertise in your chosen subject.
At Open Study College our health and fitness courses are offered on a distance learning basis. This means you can study at your own pace to suit your personal lifestyle. You can fit your learning around your family commitments. Currently in employment? Study alongside your current job so your earnings remain unaffected while you invest time towards your new career.
