Improve your knowledge of conflict management in the workplace
May 8, 2018 / Sharnie Carter
As much as we would like, everyone doesn’t always get along.
Whether it be difference of opinion, clashing personalities or a full-blown feud, there will always be people that don’t get along.
Now imagine having to see these people day in and day out… not ideal really.
Well that’s what it would be like to dislike someone in the workplace. You would be in their presence for most of each day, 5 days a week, year after year.
But that’s natural. It is bound to happen and there is not much that we can do to stop it.
However, how we deal with this conflict in the workplace can make a big difference, which is why conflict management is so vital in every working environment.
What is conflict management?
Conflict management is the system of controlling the amount of conflict within a workplace, and knowing how to deal with it correctly when it does occur.
This includes all stages of the process:
- Identifying candidates who would work well in a team during the interview and recruitment process
- Know and understand the purpose of competence and competences within a workplace
- Actions to take to avoid conflict
- Actions to take once conflict has been recognised
- Understanding the role a manager plays in conflict management
- Legal obligations
This is vital within a workplace and is usually the responsibility of the HR Personnel.
