5 Tips to achieve your goals this April

April 1, 2016 / Sharnie Carter

Do you feel like the year is going too fast? It’s already April and you are still stuck in the same mind-set doing the same thing. Then stop…this is your chance to make a change and achieve those important goals that you’ve always wanted. Here are 5 tips on how to achieve your goals:

Decide what you want

The first thing you need to do is think about what you want to achieve. This can be either a big or small change – it is up to you! By taking your time to think about what you want is an important first step for helping you succeed. Do you want a distinction in your course? Do you want to achieve your dream job? You decide what you want! You then want to ask yourself why these are important to you and determine if these goals are realistic.

Make a plan

You should start by brainstorming together thoughts about the following:

  • Your ideal future
  • Qualities you admire in others
  • Things that could be done better
  • Things you want to learn more about
  • Habits you want to improve

These will get you thinking about how you can improve yourself and get you on your way to achieving your desired goals.

Make your goals SMART

An effective way to assess your goals is to make them smart:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bounded

If you have more than one goal you should rank these in order of importance. This will then show you which ones are the most meaningful to you.

Dedicate your time

To achieve your goals you will need to put a lot of hard work and time into making them a reality. You should think about how long you expect it will take you to achieve them and when you want it to be completed. If you are truly committed to your goal you will need to dedicate your time on it. You should do this by building your efforts into a daily routine and scheduling your time to work on your goals every day.

Track your performance

When you are working towards your goal you should keep track of your progress. You could do this by keeping a journal, using an app or making a note in a diary. You will then be able to notice your improvements and study your performance, which will help you stay motivated. Use positive and negative reinforcement in order to push yourself to achieve your goals.
