Are you interested in studying Psychology?
Psychology is the study of mind and behaviour. It is a science, which allows psychologists to study human behaviour by observing, measuring and testing, then arriving at conclusions. It is interesting for us to find out what makes us tick and how the information we discover can help solve major problems in society. Here are 3 reasons why you should study psychology:
1. Learn about human behaviour
Understanding someone’s behaviour is a great way to explore how the mind works. You will be able to discover how millions of people are affected by disorders of the brain and nervous system including: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, strokes and traumatic brain injuries. In addition, find out the answers to fascinating questions such as:
- Why we feel more energetic in the morning?
- Why we try to analyse our dreams?
- How hypnosis works?
- Why we continuously learn throughout our lives?
- How do we remember?
Psychology is an interesting subject and can help you understand your own life and behaviour.
2. Explore research methods
A major part of psychology is methodology. This is because it is used to conduct research and help describe and measure human behaviour. There are a number of methods that psychologists use. Some of these include: observations, experiments, case studies and survey’s. These are used to gather data, format theories, test predictions and interpret results.
3. Investigate psychology in society
Gordon Allport a famous Psychologist defines social psychology as:
“Understanding and explaining how the thought, feeling and behaviour of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of other human beings” (1985). – Gordon Allport
You will be able to discover the factors that lead us to behave in a given way in the presence of others. You can then see how this refers to your own life and others.
