"The course syllabus has changed slightly since I completed the course so I can't comment on the literature being covered now (it appears that war poetry has disappeared - which could get very depressing at times, dealing with Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen).

I believe that the home learning study method works very well for this course as the heart of an English Literature course is examine and explore your own ideas about the course literature. As such there isn't the black and white absolute truth associated with a subject such as maths. The tutor support is invaluable for criticising your own style of writing and your style of analysis. If you enjoy books and want to understand how an author conjures up visions and emotions inside the mind of an entranced reader, or want to understand the difference between great works of literature and a typical pot-boiler, then A-Level English Literature is an ideal course."
