Bookkeepers keep financial records and help to prepare accounts in all types of business. Bookkeeping is a fulfilling and logical profession, many students feed back that they find it extremely relaxing. Don't worry if the description looks a little daunting at first because we take you through every step of bookkeeping to prepare you for employment or further training. The ICB are the worlds largest Bookkeeping institute with 250,000 members worldwide. You will also be in very good company joining the ICB as the patron is Prince Michael of Kent, giving this qualification excellent credibility and recognition.

Once you have completed this course you will be ready to take the ICB Level 2 Bookkeeping examination. The ICB are the "Institute of Certified Bookkeepers." This will then allow you to practice as a full time bookkeeper, you may then decide to look at accountancy as a path to extend your bookkeeping abilities.

Course Content

The course is divided up into eight modules, as follows:

Introduction to Value Added Tax (VAT)
Cash Books & Petty Cash
Reconciling Accounts
Accounting for Stock
The Trading and Profit & Loss Account
The Balance Sheet
Year End Ledger Entries
Accounting for Non-Profit Making Organisations

Course Duration

Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies.

Assessment

The course will take the form of a series of written assignments which are submitted and marked by your tutor. If you wish to gain the formal ICB qualification you will also need to sit an exam at a local test centre; these exams are held 3 times every year in March, June and October around the world.

Study Method

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.

Qualifications

With this bookkeeping course you have two options:

The course can be studied for personal interest and development without assessment and we can provide you with a completion certificate.

However the course covers the requirements of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers Level II in Bookkeeping. On successful completion you will gain an official ICB level II certificate and an OSCA (Open Study College Award). This enables you to put the letters AICB after your name to show you are an Associate member of the ICB. Students must register independently with the ICB and submit for the examinations which are held three times a year at centres worldwide. Membership and examination fees are payable to the ICB and are not included in the course price. Taking and completing this course will add value to your CV by demonstrating your understanding of Bookkeeping. It will enable you to maximise your personal development, and help you find your dream job, by showing a potential employer your commitment and knowledge of the subject. It will allow you to put yourself in charge of your career, to develop and grow at a pace that suits you, and help you stand out from other applicants when job hunting.

Q: Do I have to sit an exam?

You have the option of sitting the ICB examination to gain the full qualification however if you choose not to we can issue you with a certificate proving that you have completed the course.

Q: Are there any additional costs?

If you decide to sit the ICB exam then there will be a small charge to do this of £25. There is also a fee of £45 to become a registered student of the ICB; an application form is included within your course pack.
