Unit 1: Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment

  • Understand the responsibilities of employers and employees under current legislation
  • Identify workplace hazards, who may be affected and the consequences
  • Use risk assessments in appropriate formats
  • Use workplace health and safety policies
  • Understand your own role in accident recording and reporting procedures

Unit 2: Heating in Building Services Engineering

  • Establish heating requirements for buildings, select design conditions and establish heating loads
  • Know the operational features and characteristics of low pressure hot water (lphw) heating equipment, plant and materials and how they are applied in use
  • Design low pressure hot water (lphw) heating installations for specific applications
  • Understand how to size, select and specify heating installation pipe-work, plant and equipment.

Unit 3: Ventilation and Air Conditioning in Building Services Engineering

  • Establish ventilation and air conditioning requirements for buildings, recommend strategies, select design conditions and estimate cooling loads
  • Know how the operational features and characteristics of ventilation and air conditioning, equipment, plant and materials contribute to their application and usage
  • Design ventilation and simple single zone air conditioning installations for specific applications
  • Understand how to size, select and specify ventilation and air conditioning systems, ductwork, plant and equipment

Assessment

You will be assessed through a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor. There is no external examination required.

You may start at any time and have a full year to complete your studies.
