Course Content

Unit 1: Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment

Understand the responsibilities of employers and employees under current legislation
Identify workplace hazards, who may be affected and the consequences
Use risk assessments in appropriate formats
Use workplace health and safety policies
Understand your own role in accident recording and reporting procedures

Unit 2: Heating in Building Services Engineering

Establish heating requirements for buildings, select design conditions and establish heating loads
Know the operational features and characteristics of low pressure hot water (lphw) heating equipment, plant and materials and how they are applied in use
Design low pressure hot water (lphw) heating installations for specific applications
Understand how to size, select and specify heating installation pipe-work, plant and equipment.

Unit 3: Ventilation and Air Conditioning in Building Services Engineering

Establish ventilation and air conditioning requirements for buildings, recommend strategies, select design conditions and estimate cooling loads
Know how the operational features and characteristics of ventilation and air conditioning, equipment, plant and materials contribute to their application and usage
Design ventilation and simple single zone air conditioning installations for specific applications
Understand how to size, select and specify ventilation and air conditioning systems, ductwork, plant and equipment

Assessment

You will be assessed through a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor. There is no external examination required.

Course Duration
