You will need to take the standard A-Level examinations in order to fully complete this course. The examinations run on specific dates which can be obtained by visiting the AQA website. You will be required to pay for and book these examinations yourself; however, we can provide a list of A-Level test centres around the country to help you with this.

Course Duration

You will have until June 2016 to complete this A-level. This is plenty of time, allowing you to progress through each module at a comfortable pace.

Study Method

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. Students receive the course manual and a study guide, plus tutor support by email. Your A-level course materials will be sent out in the post upon enrolment.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this home learning course you will receive an A-Level in Mathematics (AS and A2) issued by AQA. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level. The subject code for this A-Level is 6360.

Course Questions and Answers

Q: What skills are needed to enrol onto this course?

You will need to have a GCSE Grade B (or its equivalent) in Mathematics, as some of the concepts in the A-Level Mathematics course will follow on from some of the knowledge gained at GCSE level.

Q: What is included in the cost of my course?

  • Student record bag
  • Pen
  • Mouse mat
  • Study guide
  • Comprehensive study notes
  • Personal tutor support
  • Assignment marking and feedback
  • Accreditation

Q: Is there a required reading list?

We recommend the following textbooks for this A-Level; however, they are not essential for completion of the course:

  • Advanced Maths for AQA: Core Maths C1+C2, Smedley R. (2004) OUP Oxford, ISBN-13: 978-0199149360
  • Advanced Maths for AQA: Core Maths C3 + C4, Smedley R. (2005) OUP Oxford, ISBN-13: 978-0199149872
  • Advanced Maths for AQA: Further Pure FP1, Gaulter B. Jefferson B. (2005) OUP Oxford, ISBN-13: 978-0199149858

These textbooks can be purchased online or are widely available in most good quality bookshops.

Q: What if I cannot find a local examination centre?

You may be required to travel to find an examination centre. But as A-levels are such a well-regarded qualification, it is worth the effort.

Q: How much are the examination fees?

These can vary so we would advise you to check with your chosen centre prior to enrolment.

Q: Are there any additional costs?

You may wish to purchase the recommended textbooks included in the reading list above; however, purchase of these is not essential for completion of the course. You will, however, need to obtain a good quality graphical calculator; and you will generally be required to pay a fee to take your examinations at the exam centre that you choose.

Q: What if I live outside the UK?

You are still able to study this A-Level course but must take the examinations within the UK, as this is the only guaranteed way to access examining centres.

Q: What do I do if I still have questions?

Reviews for this course

"a great and well written course"
Fatima Zahra Najam, London

I've recently started reading over the course and I like the fact that there are loads of examples, exercises and activities. I have emailed my tutor quite a few times and have recieved replies in good time so that's not a problem.

However you could improve by giving page numbers- I find it quite hard to sometimes find my pages so I had to write in my own numbers. Also, although you do give examples, sometimes towards the end of the examples, some of the stages are left out so I find it quite difficult to try and work out how one stage leads to the last stage- it would be much easier for me if all the stages of an example were written in and not skipped.

Apart from that, I’ve got no other problems with it and generally think it’s a great and well written course.

"well explained and easy to understand"
Rachel Hibbert, Manchester

The material given is well explained and easy to understand, and the practise questions give me a good feel for the A-level. I would prefer if the assignments were more regular so I would know from a teachers perspective how I was getting along.

"easy to understand"
Helen Dugard, Lewes

I find the course material easy to understand and the tutor support so far has been very good. My only plea would be for more examples to practice from. I've bought a separate book which just contains problems to work through which I am finding very useful for revising each subject.

I am enjoying the course and am looking forward to completing the first module of study soon.
