- This A-level Classical Civilisation course is based on the new syllabus and is ideal for students who are looking to retake an A-Level or who need UCAS points for University.
- Classical civilisation is the term applied to the civilisations of Greece and Rome and this course covers wide range of subjects such as literature, linguistics, numismatics, epigraphy, archaeology, art, architecture and philosophy.

- Develop and apply analytical and evaluative skills at an appropriate level and make an informed, personal response to the material studied.

AS Level
- Unit 1: Homer's Odyssey and Society
- Unit 2: Greek Tragedy in its context
A2 Level
- Unit 1: Art and Architecture in the Greek World
- Unit 2: Virgil and the World of the Hero
Assessment
- Unit 1: Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes
- Unit 2: Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes
- Unit 3: Written examination: 2 hours
- Unit 4: Written examination: 2 hours
Study Method
The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. Throughout the course there will be self-assessment questions, and tutor marked questions, to enable you to monitor your progress.
Qualifications
Upon successful completion of this home learning course you will receive an A-Level in Classical Civilisation (AS/A2) issued by OCR. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the best suited to distance learning.

Q: What skills are needed to enrol onto this course?
You will need to have a reasonable grade GCSE or "O" Level in Classical Civilisation.
Q: Is there a time limit for completion of this course?
You will have 18 months to complete your home learning course. This is a lot more time than you need so that you can study at your own pace and in your own time without the pressure of tight deadlines.

Q: Do I have to sit an exam?
You will need to take the standard A-Level examinations in order to fully complete this course.
The examinations run on specific dates which can be obtained by visiting the OCR website. Students are required to book examinations.
Q: Are there any additional costs?
You will need to purchase the books listed above.
You will also be required to pay a small fee to take your examinations at the examining centre that you choose.
Q: What if I live outside the UK?
You are still able to study this A-Level course but must take the examinations within the UK as this is the only guaranteed way to access examining centres.
