A-Levels are split up into two parts. The first part is called the AS level, this is half of an A-level. To turn an AS Level into a full A-level you then do the second half of the course which is called "A2".

On completion of the Chemistry A-Level course, students will be able to:

• Learn about structure and bonding, organic chemistry,atomic structure, and kinetics.
• Study the various families of elements and formulae of chemicals in a real-world context.
• Gain a better understanding of laboratory procedures and how to safely carry them out.
• Recognise the value of chemistry to society and how it may be used responsibly.

• Chemical equilibria I 
• Industrial inorganic chemistry

Unit 3: 

• 1A. Assessment of experimental skills 
• 1B. Laboratory chemistry

Unit 4: 

• Energetics II 
• Periodic Table II (Period 3 and Group 4) 
• Chemical equilibria II 
• Acid-base equilibria 
• Organic chemistry II (acids, esters, carbonyl compounds, acid chlorides, nitrogen 
• compounds and further halogeno compounds)

Unit 5: 

• Redox equilibria (applications) 
• Transition metal chemistry 
• Organic chemistry III (reaction mechanisms and aromatic compounds) 
• Chemical kinetics II 
• Organic chemistry IV (analysis, synthesis and applications)

Unit 6: 

• 1A. Assessment of experimental skills II 
• 1B. Preparation for synoptic questions.

Study Method

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. Students receive a course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail or email. You can start this course at any time.

Qualifications

The course leads to the an A-Level Chemistry (AS/A2) issued by AQA upon completion of your course. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level.

Returning your work is simple. We provide an online learning environment for our A Level courses that allows you to submit your work electronically via your computer. You also have the option of returning your assessments via Email if you so wish.
